Founded on the principles of unity, education, and mutual support, we have already made strides in bringing together our community and helping members integrate into society. Our ongoing work focuses on building strong relationships, providing guidance, and creating safe spaces where individuals can connect and thrive

As we look to the future, we aim to expand our efforts to support at-risk youth, prevent crises within families, and ensure our community members have access to essential services. Ahmeddin Yosuf

President and Founding Board Member

President, and Founding Member Ahmeddin Yosuf has been a key figure in the Eritrean Muslim community in Portland for several decades.

As a founding member and current president of the Eritrean Muslim Association of Portland, he has been instrumental in driving initiatives that support and unite community members.

His strong commitment to cultural preservation is evident through his leadership in organizing various events and holidays for the Muslim community.

These gatherings serve as important opportunities for connection, allowing members to engage and celebrate their shared heritage.

Known for his commanding presence, Ahmeddin Yosuf effectively motivates others to contribute to the organization’s goals. He prioritizes inclusivity and ensures that all community members’ voices are represented in discussions and decision-making processes.

With a focus on addressing the challenges faced by the Eritrean Muslim community, Ahmeddin Yosuf continues to lead with clarity and purpose, making a significant impact on the Eritrean community in the Greater Portland Area.

Adam Surur

Vice President and Founding Board Member

Vice President, and Founding member Adam Surur has played an essential role in establishing and shaping the vision of the Eritrean Muslim Association.

As a founding member and vice president, he has been instrumental in the strategic development and operational success of the organization. His leadership ensures that the day-to-day activities align with the organization’s mission to serve and empower the Eritrean Muslim Association.

Adam Surur is particularly focused on fostering partnerships with external stakeholders and ensuring the financial sustainability of the organization.

Through his efforts, the organization will secure important collaborations that allow for the expansion of its programs and initiatives. With a background in Community Services, Adam Surur brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team.

He works closely with the president and other board members to develop long-term goals and ensure that all activities are conducted with transparency, integrity, and a strong sense of purpose.

Abduselam Younus

Treasurer

As Board member Abduselam is in charge and responsible for overseeing EMAP’s financial health and ensuring it has the resources to operate Responsibly.

This includes Budget Reviewing and approving the annual budget, and ensuring funds are spent accordingly. He also works to solve other money management issues,  Financial reporting.

Ensuring financial reporting requirements are met, including tax returns and reports, and managing the operating budget are among the most important functions of his work.
